"Sa Iyong Paglaya" is the Holy Monday episode of the 2007 edition of the annual drama anthology Eat Bulaga's Lenten Special. It aired on 2 April 2007 with a total runtime of 72 minutes.

Each year, the anthology replaces the noontime show's regular programming in observance of the solemnity of Holy Week. Standalone episodes of short dramas are shown from Holy Monday to Holy Wednesday, with each episode having different characters, story, and director. A total of three episodes were produced and released for the 2007 edition.[1]

Directed by Bibeth Orteza, "Sa Iyong Paglaya" tells the story of a family that is on the brink of splitting up. After years of feeling like a hostage, a determined wife has finally decided to escape the hands of her manipulative and domineering husband.[2]

The episode is top-billed by Vic Sotto, Pia Guanio, and BJ Forbes. Supporting cast includes Jimmy Santos, Keempee de Leon, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Sugar Mercado and Mr. Pogi 2006 grand winner Edgar Allan Guzman.

Bibeth Orteza also directed the Tuesday episode of the 2007 edition titled "Binhi sa Matabang Lupa".

Plot

At home, Amanda (Pia Guanio) flips through the happy memories in their family photo album, but flashbacks contrarily show that her husband Rey (Vic Sotto) has been a domineering and temperamental man throughout their marriage. After confronting her husband, she decides to leave him and to bring their son Junie (BJ Forbes) with her.

Amanda's brother Monchit (Keempee de Leon) arrives at the house to pick them up. While waiting, Monchit is confronted by Rey about the debt that he owes him, but they develop a compromise that his debt will be forgiven if Monchit convinces his sister not to leave. Rey also convinces his driver Johnny (Jimmy Santos) to stall the family's departure.

Amanda's vehicle stalls which forces the family to return to the house. To further delay their departure, Monchit devises a plan by acting sick. With everyone back at the house, Rey gradually begins to develop a closer relationship with his son. Eventually, Amanda discovers that his brother is faking his illness. She confronts his brother.

Meanwhile, Johnny gets a visit from his friend Bino (Wally Bayola) and his nephew Jun (Edgar Allan Guzman). Johnny hands over an envelope which contains financial support from Rey to Bino's nephew. Jun informs Johnny that he would like Rey to come to his upcoming graduation, which reveals that Jun is Rey's son from another mother. Rey expresses his disinterest in attending the graduation.

Youtu

Rey and Amanda share a kiss.

Later, Johnny meets up again with Bino and Jun in front of the house to give them additional cash from his own pocket. Rey overhears their conversation and confronts the child. He reveals that Jun is not his real son because Jun's mother had an affair during their marriage. Rey further confesses that his bitter and distrustful character comes from a similar experience from his past involving his parents. After hearing his confession, everyone decides to abandon him, except Junie who felt pity for his father.

Rey asks Amanda for forgiveness after realizing his mistakes. Nevertheless, Amanda decides to leave him, but promises that she will return to them once he's fully healed from his past. They kiss for the last time.
